A product development engineer is a professional who develops, designs, creates and manages new product ideas for firms, where they are hired. He/she is involved in the whole product development process including gathering enough information to inform the process of idea validation.

Other responsibilities include participating in the designing of the proposed products and producing prototypes and conducting product testing.
