Sample administrative assistant skills test

Employers use skills tests to gauge the how suitable an applicant is, in the role of an administrative assistant. The role requires one to have strong computer skills, time management skills, professionalism, paying attention to details and excellent communication skills.


The most administered skills tests are aptitude tests that include verbal comprehension, numerical comprehension, situational judgment tests, and personality tests. Skill assessments tests are also used to test if the applicant is conversant with typing, using applications such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint as well as spelling.

The filing test is for testing accuracy and speed in filing items in chronological, numerical or alphabetical order. A question contains five items that should be arranged in the required order whether chronologically, alphabetically or in a particular order.

The arithmetic test measures accuracy and speed in doing calculations that involve division, multiplication, subtraction, and division.

Vocabulary test checks how well a person understands various words. It comprises identifying a word or phrase with similar meaning with the one highlighted in bold.

Following instructions test checks if the person can follow written instructions. The test is based on a calendar and its information list.
